Maternity Reflexology
Research has shown that regular reflexology treatments during pregnancy can shorten the duration of labour, with women often requiring less pain relief during the course of the delivery.
Before conception, reflexology has an excellent reputation for helping sub-fertile couples to conceive.
Postnatally, reflexology also plays an important role and can help to increase milk production, increase energy levels, relieve stress and anxiety problems, sleep problems and postnatal depression.
Reflexology during pregnancy is safe and effective and one of the most supportive natural therapies during this time. It can help alleviate morning sickness, insomnia, oedema, headaches, migraine, fatigue and exhaustion, high blood pressure, backache and sciatica, and is perhaps one of the most deeply relaxing treatments you may experience.
For the best results, four initial weekly treatments are advised, to be followed by a treatment each month throughout your first trimester. Ideally an increase to fortnightly treatments during your second trimester would be most beneficial and from week 37 a further increase to weekly treatments right up until your baby is born. But don’t worry if you have only just discovered reflexology towards the end of your pregnancy - be assured that single treatments can still be highly beneficial and effective.
